Essay Contest

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Monday, May 8th

We are pleased to announce our first ever essay contest!

The Prompt:

In 500 words or less, respond to the following:

  • Why protect Maine’s lakes?
  • Why are they important to you?
  • Describe an experience that illustrates your appreciation.

Essays must include a title and header with the participant’s name, age, school, and town.

The Prizes: $250 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd.

The Deadline: Essays must be emailed to katie@30mileriver.org by May 1st.

Eligibility: Applicants must be students enrolled at either Kents Hill School, Leavitt High School, Maranacook High School, or Mt. Blue High School or they must be a high school student from one of our watershed towns*.

*Chesterville, Fayette, Leeds, Mount Vernon, New Sharon, Readfield, Vienna, Wayne.
